Tapeworm
Tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus, The tapeworm can grow up to 9mm in length and lives in the dogs intestine. Eggs shed by other dogs are eaten by a great number of intermediate hosts including humans. Sheep are infected more than other animals which the parasite develops into a cyst. Dogs become infected by eating carcasses of sheep or deer which contain cysts in their tissue. Infected dogs can go unnoticed except for diarrhoea or bad general condition. More than a thousand worms at one time can be found in the dogs intestine. Wales has a control scheme involving supervised worming of dogs as practiced in New Zealand. The feeding of raw meet should be avoided.
