Scottish Cities

There are four main cities in Scotland, all of which are near the mouth, or on the estuary of the country's main rivers. Aberdeen, on the east coast has two rivers, the Dee and the Don, Dundee on the east coast is on the river Tay, Edinburgh towards the east is on the Fourth estuary, and Glasgow is on the Clyde towards the west coast.

Aberdeen
Aberdeen is known as the granite city, because almost all the buildings more than thirty years old are of granite which used to be dug out of the local (Rubislaw) Quarry.
Dundee
Dundee is the home of DC Thompson, publishers of the Sunday Post, Scotland's Sunday paper, those favourite childhood comics the Beano and the Dandy and the now defunct girls mag, Jackie.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city, is a beautiful place built on very hilly ground. The old city is fascinating with its multiple street levels, walkways and closes.
Glasgow
Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland, is probably most famous for the rivalry between its football teams Rangers and Celtic which has deep historical roots. Though this rivalry has become less violent than it was in the past.
