West Highland White Stairs
When your first bring your puppy home you will find that after a day or
so, he will be exploring his new environment, sooner or later he is going to
find your stairs and will run up it like running up a mountain.
But don't be surprised if he wont come back down, after all that one long
drop down there. The same can be said for seats, they jump up on them, but
wont jump down.
Westie's are very cleaver dogs, they know they will hurt themselves if
they try to jump from a height, so don't worry if your Westie wont come back
down those stairs, when he is a bit older and stronger, he will run down the
stairs too, and you might want to consider a child's stair gate.
Don't encourage him to go up and down the stairs too early in life, let
him discover what he can do in his own time. Stairs are dangers places for
children, and can also present dangers for pups. If a pup falls from a
height he could well injure himself.
Very soon your Westie will get the hang of things, and learn to walk
carefully down the stairs, while running 100 miles per hour up it, and if
the door bell rings, he will probably run 200 miles per hour down it !
