West Highland White Harness
A harness will be much safer to use than a collar. Although dogs need a collar for identity tags, they don't have to be used to chock the dog while your out walking. A Harness is much more comfortable on a dog, and there is no chance of it slipping over his head like there is with a collar. The thick strapped harness, as shown in this picture, does not grip the neck at all, instead it wraps around the dogs body snugly and securely, making it very easy to control the dog.
These is also the advantage that the harness will clip into your cars seat belt strap and hold him safe while travelling in the car. The harnesses available for Westie's come adjustable, they should fit a pup as well as an adult dog, and will last forever. This will allow you to buy a soft fancy collar just for decorative reasons, and to hold his name and address tag.
