Which Vaccine
- Which Vaccine to use
Two authorised brands of rabies vaccine are currently on the UK market:
Rabisin and Nobivac. Rabies vaccines will now be made freely available to vets. This means that MAFF authorisation to purchase and use
rabies vaccines will no longer be required.
- When to vaccinate
An animal must be at least three months old before it is vaccinated.
Vaccination can take place any time after the animal has been fitted with a
microchip. Before administering the rabies vaccine, the vet must check to
confirm that the animal is identifiable by a permanent number microchip
implant.
- Boosters
After an animal has been vaccinated against rabies,
it must be given booster vaccinations.
- Record
When the animal is vaccinated, the administering vet must record these details on the vaccination record card:
- Date of vaccination
- The animal's date of birth and age
- Microchip number and date of insertion
- Due date of next vaccination (or booster)
- Vaccine product name
- Batch number
