The West Highland White, Stinking Pages
Dogs love the smell.
There can be no doubt, that dogs will not do anything that they don't
like, if they are walking in the countryside, or having a play in the
garden, if they come across something they like, they will play with it.
Chasing squirrels, chasing cats, playing with foot balls, are just a
few things Westie's love to do. You don't need to teach them these
things, they instinctively do them. Some again say this is all down to
stalking their pray, but I hardly think a stick would evoke some
evolutionary trait.
So that answer has got to be "They love the smell"
Remember that dogs smelling instinct is far superior to that of mans,
and perhaps they can smell much more than we can. Mans offensive smell
list can vary, for example some people hate the smell of curry powder :)
So there you have it, perhaps these bad smells (to us) are like
perfume to the dog, and one things for sure, you can train your Westie
not to roll in these stinky things by just telling him their bad, but
the next time you turn your head, he will be rolling in it again, so
watch out, its an ongoing learning process.
One thing, these smelly things can contain worms, bacteria and all
sorts of deceases, so the moment your West rolls in something, get him
cleaned up straight away, and remove the offending stinky thing when
ever possible. |
