Worming

A good wormer can make a big difference. Modern wormers are very effective and work with few or no side effects. Newly born pups need to be wormed early and more often than fully grown dogs. If she hasn't been wormed during pregnancy, the bitch should ideally he wormed at the same time. For example with Panacur, a new pup should be dosed at two and five weeks old.

Subsequent doses should be given at eight and 12 weeks - around the time of vaccination. Some breeders may worm the dam late in pregnancy to control immature worms (larvae) before they infect the new horn animal. An effective worming programme will help ensure bright, healthy pups.

Ensure that children wash their hands before eating and discourage them from putting dirty fingers in their mouths, particularly after playing with animals. Floors that children are playing on should he clean, and avoid putting small . children on the entrance floors of public buildings. It's best not to leave small children unsupervised with pets. Clear up immediately if pets foul the floor. Also train cats to use litter trays.
