Annual boosters
Regular booster vaccinations are then used to maintain the immunity provided
at a level which will continue to protect your dog against the infectious
diseases. Modem vaccines, such as the Nobivacl range are products of extensive research.
These vaccines are
manufactured to standards which are no less exacting than those demanded for the
production of vaccines for human use. With such safe and effective vaccines readily
available, it makes sense to protect your dog at the earliest opportunity. As MDA in the puppy declines, so too does the protection produced
as a result of vaccination - only more slowly as this is "active"
immunity.
There are two ways in which the animal's active immunity can be ',topped
up":- .by exposure to disease. Provided the adult dog well protected, by means of a
booster vaccination, It is a fact that today's vaccines are very effective and have a remarkably
high safety record. Millions of doses are used Annually in the UK alone.
"Lapsed"
booster, If you forget to take your pet back for a booster, seek advice from your
Vet
straight away as the longer you delay, the more at risk your pet will be. So
far, we have only referred to the modified (and "live") vaccines such
as many of the Canine Parvovirus vaccines which have saved thousands of dogs'
lives in recent years.
