Ticks are eight-legged creatures that are related to the
spider family. A dog may get ticks on his coat by
brushing against shrubs that are infested with them. The
types of ticks that may affect a dog will depend on
where he is living.
In the UK, the most common tick
parasites of dogs are the sheep tick, and the hedgehog
tick.
These have hairless or short- haired,
leathery bodies and spend they're lives in the
environment, only visiting dogs or other animals for a
few days in the spring or autumn in order to feed.
