Did you know pharmacies (Chemists) can provide you with veterinary
medicines? Back in 2003 the UK government changed the law so that pharmacies
can also provide veterinary medicines. And in October 2005 the law was
changed again, vets must now provide prescription free of charge.
This is good news for us all, the next time you need to buy a product,
you could ask your local pharmacy, or better still look on the internet, and
if you need a prescription, you can get one from your vet free of
charge.
- How do I get a prescription?
You can ask your vet to write you one, or you can download one and print
it out, then take it to your vet to be filled in.
- Will my vet charge me for a prescription?
No, In the UK the law was changed in October 2005, vets must now
provided them free of charge.
- Can my vet refuse to give me a prescription?
Not if its something the vet would sell you.
- If I get a free prescription, can my vet insist I take my dog to
them for more check ups?
No, this would be illegal
- When should I use the prescription?
If its for a one off, you must use it within 6 months of its date.
- What if I need a regular medication for my dog?
Ask your vet for a repeat prescription
- Can prescriptions be emailed to a supplier?
Only by the vet, you cannot email them yourself.
