Station X
During
the 2nd World War Bletchley Park near Milton Keynes became the home of
the work to decode messages from Germany. The top secret location became
known as Station X. Messages were coded using the Enigma machine and it
was the job of the people at Station X to try and work out how the
machine operated and so to decode the messages. This eventually resulted
in what was the first programmable machine and the basis for all
computers.
Bletchley Park now houses a museum to the work that went on there.
The mansion was the centre of operations although many other buildings
sprang up around the site.
