These gate lodges would once have controlled the
access to the castle grounds but are now used as private dwellings. The
grounds are very popular with horse riders and this structure is presumably
used to help mounting and dismounting but provides a handy vantage point for
small dogs!
This fine avenue is one of the quieter parts of the
park and gives extensive views towards the formal garden area in the
distance - behind the Golden Gates.
