Airbus Superjumbo
All to often we hear about the demise of British
engineering and industry, but here's something to be justly proud of,
especially for Derby. You might have seen on the news today the maiden
flight of the Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft. This is the world's largest
passenger aircraft. The plane itself has been built at the Airbus site at
Toulouse in Southern France. Its four huge Trent 900 turbofan engines were
built right here at the Rolls-Royce aero-engine plant at Sinfin just outside
Derby. We often hear about the wings being built at Chester but the engines
hardly seem to get a mention.
