Trauma or Injury

Brown stains can be caused by a trauma or injury, that is to say that the constant licking or biting, and the staining by saliva, could be down to a trauma or injury. Take notice of the way your dog walks or runs, does he have a limp, walks with a wobble?.

Overheated pathways can cause serious damage to your Westie's paw pads, injuries in tall grass from glass, sharp wood, cans, bottles, and even grass blades can all cause an injury.

Once your Westie has a cut, left unattended can soon lead to some serious infections, and soon the licking and biting may start again, and we have brown stains once more.

Poor Scamp has had several injuries from grass, you know the type shaped like an arrow head, once it goes in, it wont come out. Soon he started licking, and the wound became swollen in a very short time. Although I did remove the grass, the infection had to be treated with antibiotics.

In this case the brown fur stain was caused by an injury !. Treat the injury, the licking stops, brown fur goes away (Eventually)
