Parasitic
If there is one cause of constant licking and biting, it has to be caused
by parasites. Flea allergic dermatitis, sarcoptic and demodectic mange,
harvest mites, cheyletiella mites are all causes of the parasitic itch.
Imagine something biting away at your belly, sucking blood, living and
multiplying rapidly. Soon a town is born, then a city for these critters,
its out of control, and all your Westie can do it try and bite and kill
these parasites.
Don't go using chemicals regularly, apart from causing other skin
problems, they don't always work as they should. Only use treatments when
you need them, especially flea treatments, just use a flea shampoo when
needed.
Some of these parasites cannot be seen by the naked eye, a microscope is
needed, spotting an inflamed area should prompt you to look carefully, if
you cant see anything, go ask a vet.
Johnsons or Bob Martins flea and tick shampoo, over the internet mite
shampoos can all be used safely, but treating mites with a flea shampoo mite
(Might) not do anything at all. Get a proper diagnoses, go to another vet if
you don't get one. |
