Contact Allergy
Your Westie is going to step on things :) if there is something bad to
step on, he will find it and step on it. Depending on what he steps on, his
skin between the toes can get inflamed, and will irritate him.
This is where the itch starts, its so intense your Westie will want to
lick it, or even bite it. The brown fur that comes later is not the problem,
Westie's can suffer from contact allergies with simple things like floor
detergents.
Carpets, grass and dust can all cause a contact allergy
Airborne allergens cause atopic
dermatitis (or atopy) pollens and molds, Atopic dermatitis, Plant pollens, dander, dust mites,
and even smoke. While some of these allergens are seasonal,
if your Westie is allergic to lots of different allergies the reactions may
last the whole year, and you will see a variation on the licking and biting. |
