Westie Family

Problems

Pyometra, After the bitch has been on heat around 4 to 8 weeks a large amount of fluid in the uterus could accrue. The condition is usually brought on by a hormone imbalance. You may observe your bitch drinking excessively and she may have a raised temperature, she may also have a brown discharge from the vulva. It is important to contact your vet immediately as this condition can be life threatening.

Mammary Tumors, As your Westie bitch gets older she may develop a mammary tumor, these growths in the mammary glands can be benign. You should have your bitch checked over by a vet at least 4 times a year, and is best done 1 month or so after she is on heat. If any lumps are found your vet may advise that you have them removed, before the tumor has chance to effect other parts of the body.
