Westie Family

Another Westie Guardian, Has new family

We have two dogs both Westie's...Loulou who is nearly two and Bruce who is eighteen months. Other members of my family are: partner Rich who is just so amazing in every possible way, and our 4 children Daniel, Jessica, Sam and Megan they are all stars. :) This is our first experience of a dog being pregnant. It's been an amazing experience, very overwhelming and at times very worrying. I hope my diary will help any first timers out there and give a little insight of what to expect. Please note my diary is based on my own experience.

With only two weeks to go Rich made a whelping box from two old bed-side units. It had a little opening so Loulou could come and go as she pleased. When the box was finished I placed all the blankets inside to make it comfortable for Loulou. She was in the box like a shock along with Bruce. For the first few days both dogs slept very happily in the box then Loulou tripled in size and the box was no longer suitable for her...(to small) Panic! Panic! We asked around if anyone had any old kitchen base units they did not want. I knew my parents were in the process of decorating there kitchen and they had a load of new base and wall units delivered. I asked my parents if they would keep back an old base unit for Loulou. Problem solved (so I thought) A few days passed and still no whelping box for Loulou (MORE PANIC) I searched the web for a whelping box (found the perfect one) the only problem was getting it here on time with it being the Christmas period (MORE PANIC) We decided Loulou would have to use the wooden one Rich made for her until the new one arrived.
