8.55a.m. Pup
number three was born. Loulou did not need any help at all. She broke the sack,
bit the cord just in the right place and ate yet another placenta. She cleaned
and cleaned and cleaned until the three pups were completely white and had no
traces of any birthing mucus. Loulou settled down with three happy puppies
feeding. It's amazing how quickly mother instinct kicks in. From the moment pup
one was born Loulou knew what do.
It was just after nine and I sent the children off to school. They were excited
to go as they wanted to tell all their friends the good news. I rang the vets
back to say Loulou had three puppies and it did not look like she was going to
have anymore. I put down the receiver and rang my parents. Rich was half way
down the stairs when I called him back up.
9.15a.m Pup number four was born. Loulou
broke the sack, pulled at the cord and started the whole cleaning process.
Loulou managed to devour the placenta before we could put it in a bag. I was
advised to only let Loulou eat three placentas? as anymore could initiate a
stomach upset. (Only time will tell if Loulou gets a tummy upset) Loulou nudged
pup number four to nestle and suckle. Loulou settled down and I gave her a well
deserved drink of water. About half an hour passed and Rich and I just sat and
watched Loulou with her pups. Bruce came upstairs to have another look and a
sniff around the room. He obviously sensed that Loulou had the pups as he left
his mark on my bed. Off came the bed covers?more washing. I made another phone
call to my mum and as I was just about to say Loulou has four pups, another one
was on its way?.
