Westie Family

Birthday

8.20a.m. I heard Loulou upstairs frantically scratching and trying to dig the carpet up by the side of my bed. I ran upstairs like the speed of light, to find Loulou panting and what looked like she was chasing her tell. I called down to Rich who came running up the stairs children in toe.

8.30a.m. Loulou settled down on the carpet gave a little push and out came pup number one. Loulou tried licking the sack off but to no avail, Rich helped Loulou break the sack then she started licking the pup around the mouth to help the pup breath. She licked the pup all over to ensure it was clean. The cord did not break away so Rich cut the cord and so neatly done. Loulou ate the placenta which we knew was ok. Whilst Loulou licked her pup we emptied a plastic storage container, gave it a quick clean then filled it with blankets. We placed the pup in the container and Loulou followed. She quickly messed the bedding up and settled back down. I rang the vets to let them know Loulou had started labor and pup one was born. Jo the receptionist said "any problems were only a phone call away." I was so glad to hear those words.

8.45a.m. Pup number two was born. Again Rich helped Loulou break the sack and again she started the whole cleaning process. The cord did not come away so again Rich cut the cord. Loulou ate the placenta and carried on with the cleaning process.
