Bathing your Westie
A hair dryer should not be used to dry your Westie if he has a skin
problem as heat can make the problem worse. Older dogs, after brushing the dog and plugging its ears with cotton wool,
stand your Westie carefully in the bath on a rubber mat. Hold him tightly and
pour warm water on his coat.
Using a canine or tearless baby shampoo, soap the dog all over except for his
head, hold him firmly so he does not slip or try to get out of the bath. Work up
a good lather massaging the skin against the lie of his coat, do not get soap or
water in his eyes.
Next lather the dogs head and massage gently, rinse the dogs head quickly and
dry a little before continuing to rinse the rest of his body. Squeeze excess water from his coat then dry with a large towel. Remove the
ear plugs and dry the inside of his ears. Use a hair drier on its lowest setting, warm not
hot. If your dog has a skin problem then do not use a hair drier at all.
You will find your Westie will run around and roll on the floor, keep him
in-doors or he might just find something to roll on and spoil your hard work.
There are may special shampoos available for Westie's
with skin problems.
